Certified Ophthalmology Assistant (COA)

Description

The Ophthalmic Scribe and Assistant program is an entry level course with 140 hours of classroom and hands-on training. Once instructional hours are complete, and additional 840 hours of clinical and vocational training with experienced Ophthalmic Assistants must be completed and documented to gain Ophthalmologist Sponsorship for certification application. Foundational skills include: medical ethics, legal and regulatory, anatomy and physiology, eye disease and disorders, optics and refraction, pharmacology and patient history. Comprehensive skills include: ocular motility, diagnostic and ancillary testing, contact lens dispensing, assisting in office procedures, and instrument sterilization.
